ROAD TRIP PREVIEW: Final road trip of Regiment season will shape inaugural playoff run

There’s just 10 games left in the Newfoundland Regiment’s inaugural season.

The Newfoundland Regiment (33-19-1-1) are about to head out on their final road trip of the 2025-26 regular season.

WINNING WAYS

The Regiment are getting hot at the right time.

Newfoundland currently boasts a seven-game win streak, their longest such streak of the season. The Regiment have outscored their opponents 37-16 during their win streak, and haven’t lost since February 1 against the defending champion Moncton Wildcats.

BREATHING ROOM

Thanks to a pair of wins against Cape Breton last week, the Regiment are now sitting comfortably in third place in the Eastern Conference with 68 points in 54 games, six points ahead of the Eagles in fourth.

BIG MATCHUPS

The Regiment will kick off their road trip with a pair of games in Victoriaville against the Tigres. The Regiment and Tigers have yet to meet in QMJHL action. Victoriaville (21-27-5-0) currently sits in seventh place in the Western Conference with 47 points and are coming off back-to-back wins.

Following the series against Victoriaville, the Regiment will flip flop between Val d’Or and Rouyn-Noranda for the next four games with matchups on March 4, 5, 7 and 8.

Both the Foreurs and the Huskies are new foes for the Regiment.

Val d’Or is currently sitting in fifth place in the QMJHL’s Western Conference with 56 points and a 25-23-3-3 record, while Rouyn-Noranda (31-16-5-2) boasts a similar record to the Regiment with 69 points in 54 games.

GETTING HOT AT THE RIGHT TIME

Captain Justin Larose is on the second-longest active point streak in the QMJHL with 13 points (5G, 7A) in his last seven games.

Goaltender Louis-Antoine Denault has allowed just one goal against in each of his last three starts. Through 34 games this season, Renault ranks among the league leaders in goals against average (2.59) and save percentage (.915).

PLAYOFF PICTURE

The Regiment have already clinched their playoff spot, but it’s not yet clear who they may face in the opening round.

If the playoffs started today, the third place Regiment (68 points) would face the sixth place Charlottetown Islanders (60 points).

While Chicoutimi (85 points) and Moncton (84 points) have all but locked down the top two spots in the Eastern Conference, there’s still a chance the Regiment could match up against Cape Breton (fourth place, 62 points), Quebec (fifth place, 60 points) or Halifax (seventh place, 54 points) depending on how the final stretch of the season goes.

Newfoundland returns home for its final homestead on March 14 and 15 against Moncton before ending the season with a pair of games against Halifax on March 20 and 21 at the Mary Brown’s Centre.
