Regiment extend point streak to 10 games with road win over Val d’Or

St. John’s native Ben Veitch scores 10th goal in Regiment victory.

Despite trailing 1-0 after 20 minutes of action, the Newfoundland Regiment rattled off four consecutive goals en route to a 5-2 over the Val d’Or Foreurs at Centre Agnico Eagle on Wednesday night. 

Marek Danicek earned first star honours with a pair of goals and an assist, while captain Justin Larose collected a pair of helpers. 

Danicek, Alexis Michaud, Tyson Goguen and St. John’s native Benjamin Veitch all scored for the Regiment, while Alix Durocher and Jordan Labelle replied for the Foreurs. 

For Veitch, the goal was a milestone marker as he eclipsed double-digits with his tenth goal of the season.

Antoine Proulx picked up the win in goal with 10 saves as the Regiment outshot the Foreurs 33-12.

Newfoundland currently sits in third place in the QMJHL’s Eastern Conference, and possess a seven point lead over fourth place Charlottetown.

Justin Larose now boasts the second-longest active point streak in the QMJHL at 10 games. He has six goals and 12 assists for 18 points in his last 10 games.

With an assist in Wednesday night’s contest, Louis-Francois Belanger extended his point streak to four games. He has amassed four goals and one assist during his streak.

Newfoundland was perfect on the special teams on Wednesday night, going 1-for-1 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The Regiment have now completed three games of their final road trip of the regular season and have a 2-0-1 record. 

The club returns to action on Thursday night, heading to Rouyn Noranda to take on the Huskies.
