BREAKING: Larose breaks NL points record as Regiment win streak grows to seven games

Regiment captain Justin Larose has broken a longstanding NL points record.

Newfoundland Regiment captain Justin Larose is officially in the midst of the greatest season of major junior hockey to have ever been played in Newfoundland and Labrador.

On Saturday night, the St-Lazare, Quebec native collected a goal and an assist for his 76th and 77th points of the season, breaking former St. John’s Fog Devil Wes Welcher’s NL points record of 76 points set during the 2006-07 season.

Larose, Louis-Francois Belanger (2G) and Dawson Sharkey all found the back of the net as the net as the Regiment cruised to a 4-1 win over the Cape Breton Eagles on Saturday night.

The win was the Regiment’s seventh in a row, as the team hasn’t lost since a Feb. 1 setback at the hands of the Moncton Wildcats.

Goaltender Louis-Antoine Denault picked up his second win of the weekend with 24 saves.

The Regiment will now head out on their final road trip of the regular season; a six-game voyage with stops in Victoriaville (2 games), Val d’Or (2 games) and Rouyn-Noranda (2 games).

The Regiment return to the Mary Brown’s Centre for their final homestand of the regular season on March 14 against Moncton.
