Regiment extend point streak to four games with thrilling overtime win over Rouyn-Noranda

Louis-Francois Belanger capped off the comeback with his first goal of the season as the Newfoundland Regiment stormed back to defeat the visiting Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 3-2 in overtime at the Mary Brown’s Centre on Saturday night.

Dmitriy Kubantsev and Alexis Michaud also scored for the Regiment, while goaltender Louis-Antoine Denault picked up his first win of the season with 20 stops.

The Regiment didn’t hold a lead during regulation time, but pulled ahead when it mattered most when Belanger scored the game-winner at 1:34 of overtime.

St. John’s native Ben Veitch recorded a pair of assists, while Michaud’s goal extended his goal-scoring streak to four games. With his overtime winner, Louis-Francois Belanger extended his point streak to five games.

The Regiment finished the night going 1-for-5 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill. The club’s power play goal was their first of the season. They enter this afternoon’s rematch with the league’s 17th ranked power play at five percent (1-for-20).

The Regiment and the Huskies will do battle again on Sunday afternoon at 3:00pm.
