Five defeat Rogues 106-96 as NL falls to 0-3

Strong effort, but defending champs knock off Rogues

The Newfoundland Rogues fell 106–96 to the Sudbury Five on Friday night at the Mary Brown’s Centre, dropping their third straight game to open the season. Despite a spirited push from the home side, the reigning Basketball Super League champions proved too much to handle.

Sudbury built a commanding 23-point halftime lead, quieting the St. John’s crowd early. The Rogues responded with a strong third-quarter surge, outscoring the Five 36–20 to claw back into the contest, but the comeback fell short down the stretch.

Dedric Boyd led all scorers with 29 points for Newfoundland, while Sudbury leaned on standout performances from all-star guard Charlie Marquardt and Russian centre Alex Kotov.
