O DANNY BOY: Danicek’s OT heroics ends Regiment road trip on high note

Danicek scores overtime winner to give Regiment comeback win over Sea Dogs

The Newfoundland Regiment erased a multi-goal deficit for the second straight night, edging the Saint John Sea Dogs 5–4 in overtime on Saturday at TD Station.

Saint John struck early, with Maxim Côté scoring just 22 seconds in, but Luke Sinclair answered moments later with his first QMJHL goal to make it 1–1. Angelo Fullerton restored the Sea Dogs’ lead late in the opening frame, sending the home side into the first intermission up 2–1.

Olivier Groulx pushed the lead to 3–1 four minutes into the second period, but Alexis Michaud responded on the next shift to pull Newfoundland back within one heading into the third.

Justin Larose tied the game on the power play with 13:31 remaining, before Newfoundland native Quinn Norman scored his first career QMJHL goal to give the Regiment their first lead with just over seven minutes to play. Groulx appeared to force extra time with his second of the night, tying it at 4–4 with 13 seconds left in regulation.

In overtime, Marek Danicek sealed the comeback, scoring 3:08 into the extra frame to secure a 5–4 road win and send the Regiment home on a high note.
