CASHING IN: Newhook inks new deal with Canadiens

St. John’s native signs new deal worth $22.2 million.

Earlier this week, St. John’s native Alex Newhook signed a new four-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens, keeping him in la Belle Province through the end of the 2030-31 season.

Newhook, 25, inked a four-year deal worth an average annual of value of $5.55 million, for a total value of $22.2 million. 

A first round pick of the Colorado Avalanche in 2019, Newhook amassed 25 points (13G, 12A) in 42 regular season contests last season, but made a name for himself in the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs, scoring seven goals in 19 playoff games.
