It’s almost shocking to look back and see just how many future all-stars, Olympians and Stanley Cup champions played against the St. John’s Fog Devils during the club’s short three-year tenure in St. John’s from 2005 to 2008.
Brad Marchand. Jakub Voracek. Jonathan Bernier. Claude Giroux. Kris Letang.
And that’s just off the top of my head.
With the Newfoundland Regiment’s second season in the QMJHL quickly approaching, NLSN staff took a peek around the QMJHL to highlight a handful of must-watch NHL hopefuls who will be visiting the Mary Brown’s Centre this season to give local hockey fans every opportunity to witness these blue-chip prospects players in person before they graduate to the NHL.
Alexis Joseph and Jamie Glance, Saint John Sea Dogs
If you’ve already nabbed your tickets for the Regiment’s Opening Weekend series against Saint John, you are certainly in luck.
This year’s Sea Dogs roster features a pair of players who are likely to be selected near the top of the 2027 NHL Draft rankings in centre Alexis Joseph and right wing Jamie Glance.
A native of Lachenaie, Quebec, Joseph is the odds-on favourite to be the first QMJHL skater off the board at the 2027 NHL Draft.
In his rookie season in the ‘Q’ a year ago, Joseph was named to the league’s All Rookie Team with a sturdy 60 points (24G, 36A) in just 54 games played.
A teammate of Regiment forwards and NL natives Ben Veitch and Quinn Norman on Team Canada at this summer’s Hlinka Gretzky Cup, Joseph is projected to be selected within the top half of the first round in 2027, with some scouts’ early projections placing him in the top five.
Stratham, New Hampshire native Jamie Glance may be one of the top wingers in the 2027 NHL draft class.
Currently projected as a late first-rounder, Glance is preparing for his first QMJHL season with the Sea Dogs after splitting last season between the United States’ National Junior Development Team (USHL) and the national U-18 team.
Glance would lead the U.S. U-18 in points in 2025-26, and recorded 23 goals and 33 assists for 56 points in 62 games.
If fans aren’t able to nab tickets to watch the Regiment and the Sea Dogs on Opening Weekend, don’t worry: the Sea Dogs will be returning to Mary Brown’s Centre for a pair of games on February 11 and 12, 2027.
Malik L’Italien, Halifax Mooseheads
Montreal native and Halifax Mooseheads defensemen Malik L’Italien is nothing short of a scout’s dream.
Standing at 6’4” and weighing 198 pounds at just 17 years of age, it’s hard not to get excited about how L’Italien’s tools may translate at the NHL level.
Beyond his size, L’Italien scored four goals and added 20 assists for 24 points during his rookie campaign in the QMJHL last season.
Like the aforementioned Joseph, L’Italien was also a member of Team Canada’s gold medal-winning squad at the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup alongside Newfoundland’s Veitch and Norman.
Projected as a late first-rounder or early second-rounder in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft, fans can catch a glimpse of L’Italien and the Mooseheads four times this season, including a pair of games on September 25 and 26, and again on March 12 and 13, 2027.
Tommy Bleyl, Moncton Wildcats
Needless to say, Schenectady, New York native Tommy Bleyl enjoyed his rookie season in the QMJHL in 2025-26.
Amassing 13 goals and 68 assists for 81 points in just 63 games last season, Bleyl set a new QMJHL record for points by a rookie defenseman, and earned himself some significant hardware as a result, including the Emile Bouchard Trophy as QMJHL Defenceman of the Year and the Sidney Crosby Trophy as the league’s Rookie of the Year.
Following his incredible rookie season, Bleyl was selected in the first round, 31st overall by the Nashville Predators in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.
Bleyl and the Wildcats will be coming to Newfoundland and Labrador for four games this season: November 5 and 6, 2026 and on January 23 and 24, 2027.
Maddox Dagenais, Carter Meyer and James Scantlebury, Quebec Remparts
Boy oh boy, do the Quebec Remparts have a lot of talented players on board for the 2026-27 season.
Selected 16th overall in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues, forward Maddox Dagenais will be expected to lead the charge for the Remports this season. A season ago, the Montreal native collected 30 goals and 32 assists in 62 games for Quebec last season, and could threaten the 100-point mark this season with some talented teammates alongside him.
There’s a high likelihood that two of those talented teammates could be selected early in the first round in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft.
Winchester, Massachusetts native Carter Meyer is a top-10 prospect ahead of the upcoming NHL Draft, and rightfully so. Meyer led the US National Team Development Program’s junior team in goals (15), points (37) and penalty minutes (91) last season, thanks in part to his style of play and his 6’1”, 179-pound frame.
The son of seven-year NHL veteran Freddy Meyer, last season, Carter was a member of Team USA at the World U18 Championships, and amassed five points (1G, 4A) in five games played.
Rounding out the trio of blue-chippers playing for the Remparts this season is Montreal’s James Scantlebury.
Selected ninth overall by the Remparts in the 2025 QMJHL Entry Draft, Scantlebury elected not to play in the QMJHL last season, instead suiting up for the USHL’s Chicago Steel. The decision proved to be right one for Scantlebury, who won USHL All Rookie Team honours for his 39-point season, during which he found the back of the net 16 times.
A touch smaller than Meyer at 5’10” and 174 pounds, scouts currently have Scantlebury projected to be selected late in the first round of the 2027 NHL Entry Draft.
However, unlike the aforementioned prospects playing for Atlantic Canadian opponents, Dagenais, Meyer, Scantlebury and the Remparts will make just a single visit to the shores of Newfoundland and Labrador during the 2026-27 season for a pair of games at the Mary Brown’s Centre on January 15 and 16, 2027.
