The Newfoundland Regiment (31-19-1-1) have a big series coming up this weekend as they host the Cape Breton Eagles (26-17-2-8) at the Mary Brown’s Centre on Friday and Saturday night.
Heading into the weekend with just 12 games remaining in their regular season schedule, the Regiment and the Eagles are ranked third (64 points) and fourth (62 points) respectively, meaning playoff implications are on the line in this pivotal weekend series.
SEASON SERIES
The Eagles have had the Regiment’s number so far this season.
The Regiment and the Eagles have met six times already this season, and Newfoundland has a single shootout win to show for it, posting a 1-4-0-1 record against the Eagles.
The pair of games this weekend are the final games of the season between Newfoundland and Cape Breton.
RECENT GAMES
The Regiment are in the midst of their longest winning streak of the season at five games and haven’t lost since a 3-0 setback against Moncton on February 1.
The Eagles have lost back to back games and are coming off a one-sided 7-0 loss in Charlottetown against the Islanders on February 16.
STREAKING INTO THE WEEKEND
Regiment skaters Justin Larose (6G, 6A) and Alexis Michaud (4G, 4A) are both bringing five-game point streaks into the weekend series against Cape Breton.
Regiment captain Larose, also on a three-game goal scoring streak, needs just two points to match Wes Welcher’s St. John’s Fog Devils points record of 76 points set during the 2006-07 season.
