Gushue tops Young in all-NL matchup to stay undefeated at 4-0

In the all-Newfoundland matchup at the 2026 Montana’s Brier on Monday night, Team Gushue defeated Team Nathan Young 8-5 thanks in part to a steal of two points in the fifth end. 

With the win, Team Gushue remains undefeated at 4-0 and joins Team Canada’s Brad Jacobs, Alberta’s Kevin Koe and Manitoba’s Matt Dunstone as the only teams to have yet to lose a game at the Montana’s Brier. 

WHAT’S ON TAP FOR MONDAY AT THE BRIER?

Monday stands to be another busy day at the Brier with three draws taking place. 

The opening draw at 9:30 a.m. will feature a battle between the Koe brothers from Alberta and the Northwest Territories as well as an all-Manitoba matchup between Team Dunstone and Team Calvert. Northern Ontario will also face British Columbia, and Saskatchewan’s Mike McEwan rink will take on Team New Brunswick.

At 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, both Newfoundland teams return to action with Team Gushue facing Team Nova Scotia and Team Young taking on Team Ontario. Quebec will also take on Brad Jacobs and Team Canada, while Team Knapp from Saskatchewan will play Nunavut. 

In the final draw of the day at 7:30 p.m., New Brunswick will play the Northwest Territories, Team Alberta will take on Team Manitoba – Dunstone, Team Manitoba – Calvert will take on the Yukon, and Mike McEwan’s Saskatchewan rink will face British Columbia.
