NL Sports Network: Bringing Dedicated Sports Coverage to Newfoundland and Labrador

“There are so many great stories happening in sports across this province, and we want to give those stories the attention they deserve.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ST. JOHN’S, N.L. — [September 25, 2026] –  Sports fans across Newfoundland and Labrador now have a new home for local sports coverage with the launch of NL Sports Network (NLSN), an independent digital sports media outlet dedicated to telling the stories of the athletes, teams and sporting communities that make the province proud.

NLSN will provide regular coverage of a variety of sports across Newfoundland and Labrador, with a particular focus on the people and teams competing at the highest levels of the province’s sporting landscape.

Coverage will include game recaps and previews, feature stories, interviews and other original content highlighting the athletes and organizations that represent Newfoundland and Labrador on the provincial, national and international stages.

“NL Sports Network is about bringing dedicated sports coverage to Newfoundland and Labrador and, more importantly, making sure our athletes and teams have a place where their stories can be told,” said Chris Ballard, Managing Editor of NLSN.

“There are so many great stories happening in sports across this province, and we want to give those stories the attention they deserve.”

The launch of NLSN also includs the launch of NL Sports Talk, an original podcast featuring conversations and commentary about the people, teams and issues shaping the province’s sports scene. Hosted by Ballard, the podcast will complement NLSN’s written coverage and provide another way for sports fans to connect with the local sporting community.

Ballard brings more than a decade of experience in sports media to his role as Managing Editor. A graduate of Centennial College’s Sports Journalism program in Toronto, Ballard served as the play-by-play broadcaster for the ECHL’s Newfoundland Growlers from 2018 to 2024 and is the author of Growlers vs. Everybody chronicling the Newfoundland Growlers’ Kelly Cup victory in 2018-19.

“I’ve spent a lot of my career telling stories about Newfoundland and Labrador athletes, and I’ve seen firsthand how much talent, passion and character exists in our sporting communities,” Ballard said. “NLSN is an opportunity to build something that puts those stories front and centre.”

More information and coverage will be available at nlsportsnetwork.ca, with updates also available through NLSN’s social media channels.
